Vertical Arts Wins Colorado Homes & Lifestyles 2017 Home of the Year
Kamil and Glo Tazi knew this piece of property was the place to realize their dream and the couple spent the past few years consumed by the realization of this award-winning project.
Tazi Ranch, a home and equestrian facility designed by Vertical Arts Architecture, was recently named Colorado Homes & Lifestyles’ 2017 Home of the Year. Tazi Ranch is a 135-acre parcel that rests in a wildlife-laden valley in Douglas County, Colorado.
Once they had secured the location, the Tazis enlisted our expertise in order to help them accomplish the vision for their property. We managed the architecture, interior design and helped with the landscape design. Shaw Construction was the Builder and Exquisite Kitchen Design handled the kitchen design while Designs by Sundown helped us with the landscape design.
Inspired by Kamil’s Moroccan heritage and Glo’s love for the land and all things equestrian, Tazi Ranch incorporates a number of Moroccan influences and features a massive equestrian facility, consisting of multiple buildings. The landscape determined how the various structures would work together across the property.
During the design and architecture process, we considered every square inch of the incredible site’s features to ensure every part of the ranch was in sync. Each building has its own personality while contributing to an overall sense of cohesiveness.
The idea for the interior courtyard surrounded on all sides by rooms with views is modeled after the house Kamil grew up in in Casablanca. Other Moroccan influences include organic materials such as plaster and stone with bursts of zellige, a Middle Eastern approach to tile work. These elements paired well with the couple’s other design desires — windowed walls and deliberate, clean lines.
The private and protected outdoor relaxation space reiterates the clean lines of the overall structure and the bright and roomy kitchen combines custom components to bring a fresh, bold technique to the space. Stylish and understated furnishings highlight the stunning views throughout the home, as the great room provides picturesque views of nearby bluffs and distant foothills. The riding arena reflects the ranch’s overall linear design theme, too, including the use of organic materials, glass and plenty of scenery. Even the horses’ stalls frame majestic views.
At Vertical Arts Architecture, we’re excited to work with people like the Tazis and are proud to collaborate with other design firms to bring the Tazis dream to life. We look forward to future collaborations and continuing to serve our clients, bringing their visions to fruition.
