3 Architecture Terms To Know
In order to communicate your design needs, it can help to learn how to speak in terms architects use. And, come on, your friends will be impressed too when you can use architecture terms to describe your new home or remodel. Here are three architectural terms to know:
- Fenestration: “the design, proportioning, and disposition of openings in a building such as windows and doors.” A great way to emphasize those mountain views!
- Juxtaposition: “the state or position of being placed close together or side-by-side, so as to permit comparison or contrast.” This is why mixing and matching different textures and materials is appealing to the eye.
- Articulation: “how the individual parts of a design are jointed in relation to whole.” It’s the extent to which the architecture highlights the details or individual parts of a design versus the design as a whole.
